Tourist randomly stabbed at Rotterdam’s Slinge Metro station; Suspect arrested

A 50-year-old man from Turkey was stabbed Friday evening on a platform at metro station Slinge in Rotterdam-Zuid. Police arrested a 37-year-old man from Spijkenisse as the suspect, according to police.

The first emergency call came in around 10:30 p.m., followed later by a second report, according to police. The victim, who was in the Netherlands on vacation, was taken to a hospital for treatment and was able to return home the same evening after being discharged.

Authorities said the victim was not known to the suspect and was allegedly chosen at random. Police also said the suspect displayed “unexplained behavior,” though they did not elaborate.

The suspect is also known to police and was taken into custody following the incident.

The stabbing took place on one of the platforms at a busy moment, with multiple passengers witnessing the violence.
