Netflix launching cheaper subscription with advertisements in Netherlands next year
Netflix will launch a cheaper subscription with advertisements in the Netherlands next year. Soon, Dutch people will also have the choice between paying less and seeing ads, or paying more for ad-free viewing.
The streaming service already has a cheaper with-ads subscription in many other countries, including Germany and France. The ads are played before and during certain movies and episodes of series.
Netflix started testing the new subscription model in the Netherlands last year. It is not yet clear what the option will cost. In Germany, it currently costs €4.99 per month, compared to €13.99 for the ad-free subscription, NOS reports. The cheapest option in the Netherlands currently costs €9.99.
For years, watching series and movies ad-free was one of Netflix’s main selling points. But the streaming service now has a lot more competition, and platforms like Disney+, HBO Max, and Videoland already offer cheaper subscriptions with advertisements.
