Extra trains, buses and restrictions in place for King’s Night and King’s Day travel

Several transport companies are deploying extra vehicles during King’s Night and King’s Day. Qbuzz is running additional bus services to Dokkum, which is hosting the royal family this year and does not have a train station. On King’s Day itself, the company is also extending its timetable with extra evening services.

Arriva is adding extra capacity during King’s Night and King’s Day, with longer trains and more buses on several routes. This year also marks the introduction of a special King’s Night train between Zwolle and Amsterdam.

Earlier this month, NS introduced its “Orange timetable,” increasing train frequency and length on selected routes. During King’s Night, extra trains will operate around Utrecht and The Hague.

In addition, stricter measures are being implemented in several busy cities, including the full-day closure of Amsterdam RAI and Amsterdam Science Park stations on King’s Day.

Between the evening of April 26 and the morning of April 28, passengers are not allowed to bring alcohol on trains or into stations, and station shops will not sell alcohol during that time. On King’s Day itself, April 27, NS will also ban bicycles on its trains.

Luggage lockers at Breda station will be out of use from the evening of April 26 until the morning of April 28. At Amsterdam Central Station, lockers will not be available on King’s Day. At Utrecht Central, the Jaarbeurs entrance will be closed during King’s Night between 1 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., and travellers will need to use the city centre entrance instead.

On King’s Day, students with a weekday travel pass will not travel for free but can use a 40% discount on their balance. Those with a weekend pass can still travel free of charge.
