Due to a national strike in regional public transit, virtually no city- or regional buses will run from today. Some regional trains could also fall out. NS trains, and public transit in Amsterdam and The Hague are unaffected. Rotterdam is partly affected.

Regional public transit workers across the Netherlands will strike from Wednesday, unions CNV and FNV confirmed. Mediators' attempt to make a new collective bargaining agreement for this sector failed, ANP reports.

CNV called on its members to strike for 72 hours starting on Wednesday morning. "Unfortunately, we would've like to see this end differently", CNV negotiator Jean-Marie Severijns said.

A nationwide strike in regional public transit has been postponed until Wednesday, June 27th. This is to give mediators more time to come to a solution in the deadlocked collective bargaining agreement talks between unions and employers, union CNV said, AD reports.

Regional buses and -trains will not be operating across the Netherlands on Monday and Tuesday. The court gave workers permission to strike, AD reports.

The regional bus and train drivers are striking for a lower workload, more training and breaks to use the bathroom. Unions FVN and CNV announced the strike earlier this week.

Public transportation in the Netherlands was seriously disrupted Thursday morning after regional transit workers walked off the job at 4 a.m. in a one-day strike. The labour action is meant to call attention to what the workers have called unreasonable work pressure, and a pay raise that is capped 40 percent lower than what the bus drivers and train conductors wanted.

Timo Huges, former CEO of Dutch rail company NS, was acquitted of fraud in the tender process for public transport in Limburg by the court in Den Bosch on Thursday. Five other suspects of fraud in this case were also acquitted, NU.nl reports.

On Monday trade unions CNV Vakmensen and FNV announced labor actions and a possible nationwide, 24 hour long public transit strike on January 4th. These actions are the result of talks on a new collective bargaining agreement for public transit workers collapsing last month, Financieele Dagblad reports. 

The current collective bargaining agreement expires on January 1st. It covers over 12 thousand public transit employees.

The Dutch judiciary will prosecute NS and several former executives at the railway company and its subsidiaries over irregularities in the procurement of public transport in Limburg, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor confirmed to NU.nl.

Dutch railways NS is partly stopping with the operation of station stores and providing bus transportation. Instead the company will be focusing on train transport and is pushing 3 billion euros into new trains and improved service, according to the company's new strategy. The strategy does not, however, guarantee a seat for every passenger in rush hour

The Groningen city council decided to make the city center bus-free, in order to give pedestrians and cyclists more space. The asphalt will be replaced with terraces, trees and more seating in the future

NS CEO Timo Huges has been accused of abusing his power in Limburg. The Telegraaf writes that Huges forwarded an email he received from transport company Veolia to NS sbsidiary Qbuzz, while this is strictly prohibited.
