Video: Blaze engulfs JPB Logistics in Delfzijl, chemical fire now under control

A large fire broke out Saturday afternoon at JPB Logistics on Industriepark Farmsum in Delfzijl, prompting emergency services to escalate the response to GRIP-2, a coordination level that allows multiple agencies to manage large-scale incidents more effectively, Rijnmond reports. The blaze quickly became intense, with black smoke visible above the facility and moving toward nearby Woldendorp.

The black smoke was reportedly clearly visible in the sky above the company grounds. Because of the smoke, authorities sent an NL-Alert to residents in Farmsum, Woldendorp, and Nieuwolda, advising them to close windows and doors and to turn off home ventilation systems.

A fire department spokesperson said efforts to control the fire are having an effect and that flames appear less intense. “It looks like the fire is gradually coming under control,” the spokesperson said. “Extinguishing the fire completely will still take many hours.”

JPB Logistics provides industrial services, logistics, and IT solutions, and its site stores various chemicals including flammable liquids such as gasoline and solvents, chemical substances, gas cylinders, batteries and lithium batteries, and cleaning and industrial materials.
