Rotterdam teen dies from gunshot wound overnight; Two men detained

A 19-year-old man passed away on Tuesday evening as a result of a shooting in Rotterdam. The victim was shot in a home on the Zoutziedersstraat at around 9 p.m. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police have opened an immediate investigation and stress that it remains unclear what occurred, including whether it was a deliberate act or the result of other factors.

Two 20-year-old men from Rotterdam, who were in the house during the incident, have been arrested as a precaution. They remain in custody and are being questioned by the police.

Police are urging anyone with information or video footage related to the incident to come forward and help with the investigation.

This is not the first violent incident in Zoutziedersstraat or Delfshaven. Previous reports include shootings and explosions, though it is unclear if they are related. One such incident occurred on September 20, 2025, when a shooting took place on the street. Police discovered a damaged vehicle with bullet casings scattered around it. Authorities discovered drugs in the vehicle, cocaine among them, according to local reports, but no suspects were apprehended at the scene

Rotterdam-West is facing a wider pattern of violence. Between 2023 and 2025, the area saw shootings, stabbings, and explosions, prompting residents to dub it the “Wild West.”
