Police share footage of suspects in fatal shooting at Rotterdam party center
The police shared footage of the possible suspects in a fatal shooting at the Sunrise party venue in Rotterdam on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday. Ardiles Gerard, a 42-year-old man from Hoorn, was killed in the shooting early on February 2. A 24-year-old Amsterdam man was seriously hurt.
The police shared footage of four men entering the party center on Galvanistraat at around 2:00 a.m. on February 2 and then three men running away after the shooting two hours later.
Before entering, two of the four men “messed around” at a fence on the side of the party location. The police think they handed a firearm to someone already inside. The party center was well secured with detection gates, and the police consider it unlikely that the perpetrators got a gun through the door.
At around 4:00 a.m., shots rang inside the party venue. Shortly afterward, surveillance footage from outside showed three men running away. A partygoer tried to follow them, and one of the fleeing men shot at him. “The police do not rule out that the shooter on the camera footage outside may be the same man as the one who shot inside,” the police said.
According to the police, the man who followed the suspects “narrowly escaped the bullet.” As did a woman who was waiting on a sidewalk nearby. The police specifically want to talk to this woman, calling her “a very important witness” on the investigative program. “We would like to speak to her very much.”
Investigators also asked party attendees with footage of that night to come forward. “Your footage will only be used for this investigation, to find out who is responsible for the death of Ardiles Gerard and for seriously injuring the victim from Amsterdam,” the police said.
The police did arrest two suspects after the shooting but released them again a short time later. They are no longer suspects in this case.
