Dutch police arrest suspect for helping teen boy shoot Russian man in Hamburg cafe
The Dutch police arrested a 26-year-old Amsterdam man on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in a shooting in Hamburg, Germany, on January 12. The suspect is accused of facilitating the assassination attempt, which was carried out by 15-year-old Mike F. from Hoorn.
The target of the attack was 49-year-old Russian criminal Rizvan A. According to several media reports, A. was allegedly part of a Chechen organized crime ring attempting to seize control of a human trafficking operation. This operation forced Bulgarian women into sex work and was reportedly managed by a Dutch-Moroccan criminal organization based in the Netherlands.
F. opened fire on A. inside a family-run Turkish restaurant. Following the shooting, the young assailant was chased by the victim’s accomplices, assaulted inside an Italian restaurant on the Hansaplatz, and shot in both legs.
In court, Rizvan A. testified that his aggressive retaliation was a post-traumatic stress response to the sound of gunshots, stemming from his time as a prisoner of war in Russia.
While the other accomplices initially fled, police eventually detained the 49-year-old victim along with two associates, aged 32 and 52. Four other suspects, aged 18 to 22, were also detained. Mike F. was ultimately sentenced by a German court to two years in a youth detention center.
Authorities state that Mike F. was lured into the assassination plot via social media platforms like Snapchat. Dutch investigators currently have over 100 suspected recruiters on their radar.
Further investigation revealed that F. had received suspicious deposits into his bank account long before the shooting, suggesting he may have also served as a "money mule." Police warn that this case fits a disturbing pattern of underage youths being exploited as "child soldiers" to carry out grave offenses, including contract killings, abductions, and bombings.
The investigation into the 26-year-old suspect’s precise role is ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out further arrests.
