Man chases, beats 12-year-old after boy throws snowball in Wassenaar
A 12-year-old boy was assaulted Tuesday morning at a bicycle tunnel in Wassenaar. His mother told Omroep West that an adult man chased him after he threw a snowball.
The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. on January 6 at the Den Deijl bicycle tunnel on Van Zuylen van Nijeveltstraat. The boy was biking to school with several other boys.
“They hit a passerby with a snowball. That led to a chase, and my son was beaten by an adult man,” the mother said, asking to remain anonymous.
Her son is reported to be doing well following the assault, but he sustained injuries and is staying home.
Omroep West reported that the family is deeply shaken by the incident and hopes anyone who witnessed it will contact the police at 0900-8844.
The mother also urged anyone with camera footage of the assault or of the man who rode away toward Voorschoten to come forward.
Police said the investigation is ongoing. “A neighborhood inquiry has taken place, during which camera footage is being reviewed,” authorities said. No arrests have been made.
