Anti-immigration protest planned in Amsterdam's Dam Square on October 12
A protest “against mass immigration for a safe Netherlands, and against the housing shortage” on Dam Square in Amsterdam was announced on TikTok. The anti-immigration protest is planned for October 12 between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
The video accompanying the Nationaal Protest announcement shows a little girl holding a piece of paper with the text: “We’re not claiming the Night, but our Country back!” according to ANP. Multiple “claim the night” protests were held following the murder of a 17-year-old girl and several other violent attacks on women last month.
The announcement also reads “NO to asylum shelters” and “Enough=enough.” These slogans were also chanted on Saturday during the anti-asylum protest at the Malieveld in The Hague, which escalated to violent riots. The counter-terrorism agency NCTV warned that the riots were a sign that right-wing extremism was becoming normalized in the Netherlands.
A spokesperson for the municipality of Amsterdam told AT5 that not much can be said about the protest yet. “We received a notification, and the municipality is in consultation with the organizer.”
Nationaal Protest reported that the demonstration was initially scheduled for October 19, but was moved because the Amsterdam Marathon is also happening on that day. On October 12, the Dutch national team will also play Finland in the Johan Cruijff ArenA in the capital. The stadium opens at 4:00 p.m. and the match will kick off at 6:00 p.m.
