Video: Boy, 6, badly hurt in hit-and-run on Rotterdam pedestrian crossing
A 6-year-old boy was injured in a hit-and-run accident at a pedestrian crossing in Rotterdam on Thursday evening. The driver fled the scene of the accident. A man later turned himself in to the police, the Rotterdam police said on X.
The accident happened at around 6:00 p.m. at a pedestrian crossing on Reyerdijk. The boy’s injuries were “significant,” a police spokesperson told RTL Nieuws. Another told Rijnmond that he was conscious and responsive when paramedics took him to the hospital.
A man later turned himself in and was arrested. The police are investigating whether he was the driver who hit the boy.
“Quite a few people were present when the accident happened,” a police spokesperson told RTL. They were questioned as witnesses and offered victim support.
According to Rijnmond, this was the second accident involving a car hitting a pedestrian on Reyerdijk this week. On Tuesday, a woman using a walker was also hit by a car. The victim was injured and taken to the hospital.
