Video: Two trams collide in Rotterdam city center; 8 hurt, tram driver arrested

Two trams collided at Kruisplein in Rotterdam on Friday morning. Eight people got hurt. Their injuries were relatively minor, but three of them had to go to the hospital, the police told Rijnmond. The police arrested one of the tram drivers.

The head-to-tail collision happened at around 8:00 a.m. at the Kruisplein tram stop in Rotterdam’s city center. Both trams were on their way to the central station. Emergency services responded en masse, dispatching police and five ambulances.

According to the city transport service RET, the two tram drivers were uninjured. The police arrested the driver of the rear tram.

The trams are standing stationary at the tram stop, disrupting the tram service between Eendrachtsplein and Rotterdam Central Station. How long this will last is unclear.

RET and the police are investigating how the accident happened.
