Two explosions in two days at Rotterdam home; 13-year-old in custody

A home on Eckerstraat in Rotterdam was the target of two explosive attacks in as many days. The police arrested a 13-year-old boy for the first attack. No arrests have been made for the second.

The first explosion happened at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, shattering a window but causing no injuries. The police arrested the 13-year-old boy. He is still in custody.

The resident of the home told Rijnmond on Monday morning that he managed to detain the boy himself until the police arrived.

Another explosion occurred at the house during the early hours of Monday morning, again causing damage but no injuries. The perpetrator fled, and no arrests have been made.

The two residents were home during the explosion and are quite shaken, they told Rijnmond. They believe they know who was behind the attacks, mentioning an ongoing argument with someone they know. “I think it was purely out of jealousy,” one resident said on Monday morning.

The police are investigating whether the two explosions are linked.
