Suspect in fatal Gouda stabbing is victim’s brother
The suspect in Tuesday evening’s fatal stabbing on Rentmeesterslag in Gouda is the 29-year-old victim’s younger brother, police confirmed, according to Omroep West. The suspect, 25, was injured during the altercation and arrested shortly after the incident.
The stabbing occurred around 7 p.m. at a residence in the Zuid-Holland city. Both men were hurt during the dispute, and emergency responders found the older brother critically injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The younger brother left the house and was apprehended by police on the nearby street. Authorities have not disclosed the full extent of his injuries.
Eyewitnesses described the suspect as covered in blood while walking through the street. “He was wearing a T-shirt and shorts, which were completely covered in blood. But also his arms, his legs, and his head. There wasn’t a spot left; blood was everywhere,” one witness told AD. The blood marks have since been removed.
Police continue to investigate the motive of the stabbing. It is not yet clear whether both brothers lived at the Rentmeesterslag residence.
Gouda Mayor Pieter Verhoeve said he was “deeply affected” by the incident. “So sad,” he wrote on X. “My thoughts and prayers go out to family and loved ones. I wish them much strength.”
