Dutch man extradited from Germany after body found in burned car
A 22-year-old man from Landgraaf has been extradited to the Netherlands in connection with the death of a 46-year-old man whose body was discovered last month in the trunk of a burned-out car just across the German border in Scherpenseel, police reported.
German authorities found the vehicle a few meters from the Dutch border near Landgraaf. The remains were located in the trunk of the car. The victim, later identified as a 46-year-old man with no fixed place of residence, had already been reported missing in the Netherlands at the time his body was found.
The day after the discovery police in Germany arrested the 22-year-old suspect. He was handed over to the Netherlands on Wednesday, August 13.
According to Dutch police, the suspect is being held under full restrictions, meaning he is not allowed any contact with the outside world except for his lawyer.
The Limburg police said they were already investigating the victim’s disappearance when their German counterparts contacted them about the burned-out car and remains.
Because of the location of the crime scene, just meters from the Dutch border, Dutch investigators have been assisting their German colleagues from the start of the case.
