Suspects turn themselves in after murdered man found in cornfield along Belgian border
Surinamese police have arrested two suspects in connection with the death of 41-year-old Sherwin Peterhof. Both came forward to authorities after their names and photos were released on Saturday, Dutch police reported.
The suspects are a 57-year-old woman from Paramaribo and a 42-year-old man from Rotterdam. They are suspected of involvement in Peterhof’s death. Police had suspected the pair had fled to Suriname and offered a 15,000-euro reward for information leading to their arrest. Police continue to search for an eighth suspect, who is also believed to have fled to Suriname. Authorities may release his name and photo at a later date.
The two suspects are expected to be extradited to the Netherlands soon. Earlier, Dutch authorities arrested five other individuals in connection with Peterhof’s death and the disposal of his body.
Peterhof’s body was discovered on August 15 in a cornfield just over the border in Meer, Belgium. A local farmer found the body buried in the field. Three days earlier, a friend had reported him missing.
Authorities say Peterhof had been staying in Amsterdam shortly before his death and may have been killed there. He had also spent time in Almere prior to his disappearance. The motive for his death remains unknown.
