Teen arrested in Amsterdam shooting that left 17-year-old dead, police say
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Amsterdam-Zuidoost that left a 17-year-old dead, according to police.
The arrest took place Friday, one day after the shooting on Meernhof. Police said they received a report around 9:30 p.m. Thursday of gunfire in the area. Responding officers found the victim by the football field on Meernhof. He was conscious and able to respond at the time.
Police said the teen was given CPR in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, but he died from his injuries.
The suspect fled after the shooting. Police have not disclosed how they located and arrested him, nor have they confirmed his exact role.
According to police, other individuals who may have been involved also fled the scene and have not yet been found. A large-scale investigation is underway. Authorities are appealing for witnesses and are asking residents to share any relevant camera footage from the area.
The municipality has scheduled a neighborhood meeting for Monday evening at the Holendrecht Community Center to address concerns following the shooting.
