Dozens of neglected pets, bones found at Friesland veterinarian
Earlier this month, 16 dogs, eight cats, and a rabbit were seized from a veterinarian in Friesland after they had been neglected, a report from the National Animal Welfare Inspection Service (LID) has stated. A cat carcass, various bones, and rabbit skulls were also found.
According to the LID, the dogs were kept in a warm house without drinking water, and some animals had severely matted coats. "A handful of dogs were locked in a heavily soiled hallway and bathroom without ventilation, where an intense, penetrating ammonia smell was present."
The inspection service and police found six malnourished cats in the shed. They had been given no water or food. There was also a rabbit roaming freely that had nothing to eat but hay soiled with its own droppings.
On the floor, the carcass of a cat was found, along with three rabbit skulls and several loose bones. Elsewhere, two more emaciated cats with matted coats were discovered. All the animals have been taken to care facilities.
The Public Prosecution Service has announced that the investigation is ongoing. The suspicion is that the woman "withheld necessary care" from the animals. It is still unclear whether the case will lead to a possible professional ban.
