Dutch tourist discharged after Dutch coach crash in Germany that injured six
A Dutch tourist injured in a bus crash in the German state of Lower Saxony has been released from the hospital, the Dutch tour operator De Jong Intra Vakanties said Saturday. Six people were hurt in the accident, which involved a Dutch coach carrying 23 senior passengers.
The coach was returning from an eight-day Dutch group tour to the island of Rügen when it veered off the road Friday evening between Rötgesbüttel and Meine, NOS reported. The passengers were traveling to a hotel in Braunschweig for an overnight stay.
According to German emergency services, the Dutch driver likely became ill at the wheel around 6 p.m., causing the vehicle to lose control. The bus struck multiple trees before coming to a stop with heavy damage.
“A bus knocked down two trees and then came to a standstill,” a fire department spokesperson told German media. “If it had overturned, everything would certainly have turned out differently.” German police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
