Three homes destroyed in Uden fire; arson suspected, no injuries reported
A large fire in Uden destroyed three homes and severely damaged surrounding structures Sunday morning, with police investigating possible arson as the cause. No injuries were reported, according to Omroep Brabant.
The fire broke out around 10 a.m. at a shed on Wijsthoek and quickly spread to a connected block of five houses. According to a spokesperson for the Brabant-Noord fire department, three of the five homes were declared uninhabitable and evacuated. “There is only material damage; no one was injured,” the spokesperson said.
Firefighters from Uden responded in large numbers, deploying multiple fire engines, a high-reach platform, and a large-scale water transport system. Heavy smoke blanketed the area, prompting authorities to urge local residents to stay indoors, shut windows and doors, and turn off ventilation systems.
By noon, firefighters reported that the blaze was under control. “This means there are enough people and equipment on scene to keep the fire under control,” the fire department said.
A police investigation is underway. Police involvement is not standard in such incidents, but according to a police spokesperson, “There are indications that it may be arson.”
The fire gutted one shed completely and damaged two adjacent sheds. A nearby house block also suffered broken windows due to the intense heat. To contain the fire, emergency crews dismantled wooden facades and removed roof tiles from the affected homes.
