Gunfire at Barendrecht McDonald’s followed by nearby van arson
Shots were fired Sunday evening at a McDonald’s parking lot in Barendrecht, and about an hour later a delivery van was set on fire on a nearby street, police said, adding that it is still unclear whether anyone was hurt and whether the two incidents are connected.
According to Barendrechts Dagblad, the shooting occurred around 7 p.m. on the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant on Van der Waalsweg in Barendrecht, in Zuid-Holland.
Police said that many witnesses were present. Witnesses told the officers they heard multiple gunshots and reported that at least two vehicles drove away shortly after the shooting. It has not been established whether those vehicles were involved in the incident.
About an hour later, around 8 p.m., the fire department received a report of arson involving a delivery van on Rozemarijnsingel, a street close to the McDonald’s on Van der Waalsweg where the shooting took place.
Police said it is not yet known whether there are victims. Officers have not found any injured people at the scene, but investigators said it is possible that a victim left the area before emergency services arrived.
At the scene, police found multiple shell casings on the parking lot. Officers also discovered a car window with a bullet hole.
