Stabbing in Breda city center leaves three injured
Three people were injured in a stabbing in the center of Breda on Sunday evening. The police arrested one suspect. According to BN De Stem, the stabbing was an escalation of a conflict between two groups of young people.
The incident happened at around 10:30 p.m. on the corner of Karnemelkstraat and Ginnekenstraat. The police said that “a large group” was involved in the incident, and more people may be arrested.
A group of young people who were at the incident told BN De Stem that a conflict arose at the McDonald’s on Karnemelkstraat. One said that a group of young men with their faces covered were looking for a fight. “We were sitting at the beginning of Ginnekenstraat when they came our way and suddenly started fighting.” According to him, at least two boys from his group were stabbed with a knife.
The police responded in large numbers and cordoned off Ginnekenstraat for investigation. Investigators also cordoned off part of the Grote Markt, though it is unclear whether this was related to the stabbing.
Several ambulances responded to the scene. The three victims were taken to a hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries is unknown.
