Police are investigating two unrelated incidents that occurred over the weekend: a shooting in Schiedam early Sunday morning and a fatal car crash in Rijsbergen late Friday night. Both events resulted in injuries, with one life lost in the car accident.
Shooting in Schiedam hotel room
A shooting at the Van der Valk Hotel in Schiedam left one person injured early Sunday. Police reported the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. inside a hotel room on Hargalaan.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was conscious when transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Three men were arrested at the scene. It remains unclear whether they knew the victim. Officers have launched a forensic investigation to gather evidence.
Fatal car crash in Rijsbergen
In Rijsbergen, a car crash claimed the life of a 22-year-old local man on Friday night. The crash, which happened around 12:30 a.m. on Schriekenweg, left two others injured.
The car veered off the road, struck three trees, and came to rest in the roadside berm. The driver, a 28-year-old man, and a 24-year-old passenger were hospitalized with injuries.
Police are investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.
Both incidents are under active investigation as authorities work to determine the causes and circumstances behind these events.
