One hurt, four arrested in shooting near Zoetermeer shopping center
A Tuesday afternoon shooting near the Meerzicht shopping center in Zoetermeer left one person wounded, police confirmed. Investigators quickly cornered and apprehended four suspects at the scene.
Gunshots rang out at about 4:11 p.m., and first responders were dispatched to both Meerzichtlaan and Herenwaard, which border the indoor mall. The injured person was found at the location, police said a little over an hour later.
"One person was injured and taken to a hospital," the police stated. That individual's condition was not released.
Investigators recovered an object resembling a firearm at the scene, but police have not yet verified if it was the gun used in the incident on Tuesday. A portion of the shopping center was cordoned off, as was the surrounding area, according to Omroep West. Police asked witnesses to come forward in an appeal on social media.
The four suspects were taken into custody using a method police refer to as the "shield procedure." In these situations, police use their protective equipment to pen in a suspect who could be considered violent. This is meant to protect officers from someone who might potentially try to attack with a knife or strike with another weapon.
