Prosecutors say traffic dispute led to fatal shooting in Eindhoven
The fatal shooting on Sunday night, 23 June, in Eindhoven was the result of a traffic dispute, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). A 41-year-old man from Eindhoven lost his life because of the shooting on the Rode Kruislaan.
Many of the victim’s relatives were present during the preliminary hearing on Tuesday at the court in Den Bosch, where the traffic dispute was discussed. The OM suspects three 19-year-olds and one 23-year-old of murder.
The charges may be extended later this year because, in addition to the murder, an investigation is underway into other serious criminal offenses involving the use of a firearm.
According to the prosecutor, the victim had allegedly argued in traffic with two of the 19-year-old suspects earlier in the evening. One of them suffered facial injuries after being hit in the face with a glass. "After this, they went to pick up the co-defendants to engage in a violent confrontation," the prosecutor said.
The OM believes that 19-year-old Mohammad Ismail A. shot and killed the victim after the group had found the man. The victim was shot in the head. “A bullet was found in his head, and it is assumed that this led to his death,” said the prosecutor.
The suspects had two weapons in the car and were out that day because, according to their lawyers, they wanted to steal a Rolex from the owner of a telephone shop.
This investigation is expected to be completed in three months. The next hearing is scheduled for December 13, which will also be a preliminary hearing.
