Three convicted in road rage shooting that killed Eindhoven man in 2024
Three men were found guilty on Friday in the murder of an Eindhoven man who was shot in the head after a traffic altercation turned violent. Mohammad Ismail A., 20, was convicted of firing the gunshot that killed the 41-year-old. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Oost-Brabant District Court.
Two co-defendants, aged 20 and 24, were sentenced to eight and six years respectively. A fourth suspect, also 20 years old, was acquitted in connection with the murder, but was convicted of unrelated crimes. He will face a six-year prison term.
Last June, Mohammad Ismail A. and one of the other suspects got into a traffic altercation with two other men in Eindhoven. The suspects got out of the car, when the 41-year-old struck Mohammad Ismail A. with a glass object.
After the incident, Mohammad Ismail A. and the three others went out searching for the man. They found him soon after, and the main suspect shot the victim dead. The 24-year-old co-defendant handed the gun to the perpetrator, and the 20-year-old who was found guilty was the driver of the car. The fourth suspect was in the car but did not contribute to the violence, the court ruled.
Judges at the Den Bosch courthouse found Mohammad Ismail A. wanted revenge because he felt humiliated, and had become furious. “His actions demonstrate a complete lack of respect for the lives of others. He not only took the victim’s life, but also caused the bereaved irreparable and profound grief,” the court ruled.
The fact that Mohammad Ismail A. had been attacked during the traffic altercation did play a factor in their ruling. “This was the direct cause for his action,” the court stated.
“In that sense, this is a different type of murder than, for example, an assassination, and other, carefully prepared and planned murders,” the judges said. At the same time, Mohammad Ismail A. could have gone to the police after the assault, they added.
The sentences imposed on Friday also included convictions for several other offenses. Among them, they were convicted of an armed home invasion a few weeks earlier. The three 20-year-old suspects also attempted extortion, and threatened someone with a firearm in Antwerp last May.
