Local men in their 20's killed in Amersfoort car crash; Police need help from residents
Three young men, aged 21, 25, and 27, were killed in an accident on Stadsring in Amersfoort, in which a car crashed into the water overnight. They were all from the municipality of Amersfoort. The police are investigating what happened and are looking for witnesses.
Patrolling police officers discovered the accident at around 1:30 a.m. on Monday when they noticed tire tracks and vehicle parts on the edge of the water on Stadsring. A closer inspection revealed the car in the water.
The emergency services responded en masse. According to AD, two trauma helicopters, fire department divers, six ambulances, and various police vehicles responded to the scene.
Rescue workers pulled the three young men from the car and tried to resuscitate them, but it proved hopeless. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The police are trying to figure out what happened. They asked witnesses or anyone with relevant footage from surveillance, doorbell, or dashboard cameras to come forward.
“We hope that people who live near the Stadsring have camera footage that shows something,” a police spokesperson told the Telegraaf. “Or maybe there are people who woke up around 1:30 a.m. because of a loud bang. That already helps to reconstruct the timeline of the accident.”
