PSV championship: 100,000 celebrate in Eindhoven; One woman run over by police van
Around 100,000 fans gathered in Eindhoven on Monday to celebrate PSV’s national championship. The celebration happened without major incident. But afterward, a woman got run over by a riot police van. She was rushed to a hospital with unknown injuries.
The accident happened at around 10:30 p.m. on Vestdijk. Witnesses told Omroep Brabant that the victim was a young woman or girl. She was crossing the street when the police van hit her. Several ambulances responded to the scene and paramedics rushed her to a hospital.
The police said that the riot police van was driving past a traffic jam, caused by an exodus of PSV fans going home after the celebration, when things went wrong. A team specialized in traffic accidents did an initial investigation. The police will determine on Tuesday morning whether further investigation is necessary.
The celebration of PSV’s 25th Eredivisie title was festive and without incident, NOS reports. The team toured from the Philips Stadium through the city center to the ceremony on Stadhuisplein, to enthusiastic applause from the thousands of spectators.

“What a turnout, this is great,” a visibly delighted coach Peter Bosz said. He reflected on the future. “Make no mistake, getting here is very difficult. But staying here is much, much more difficult,’ Bosz said. “We will have to play even better. Everyone is going to hunt us, we will have to be even better.”
