Shooting at Purmerend train station; One killed, one seriously hurt

Two men were seriously hurt in a shooting at Purmerend train station on Monday evening. One of the victims, a 19-year-old local, succumbed to his injuries overnight, the Noord-Holland police said on X on Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened at the NS station at around 8:00 p.m. The police responded with multiple units, including a helicopter. Four ambulances were also deployed to the scene.

Paramedics stabilized the two wounded men at the scene before rushing them to a nearby hospital by ambulance. A local reporter said that paramedics resuscitated one man. Both were in a “worrying condition,” the police said shortly after the shooting. On Tuesday, the police announced that one of the victims had died. “We wish his family a lot of strength with this loss,” the police said.

At this stage, it is not clear what exactly happened. The police launched a search for the perpetrator or perpetrators but so far have announced no arrests. They also cordoned off the area for a trace evidence investigation.

The emergency response and investigation halted train traffic to and from the Purmerend station for some time. NS deployed buses to get stranded travelers to their destination.
