
Shots fired in Diemen & Amsterdam; hit gas line prompts evacuation
Shots were fired in Diemen and Amsterdam Zuidoost early on Thursday morning. A gas line was hit in Diemen, resulting in surrounding residents being evacuated as a precaution, the police said on Twitter.
Both shootings happened at around 5:30 a.m. As far as is known, no one was hurt.
The shooting in Diemen happened on Rode Kruislaan. When it became clear that a gas line was hit, the situation was escalated to Grip 1, which means that a commanding officer from one of the emergency services takes command of the entire scene.
Local residents were evacuated as a peculation while the gas line was fixed. At around 6:20 a.m., the scene was cleared and residents could return to their homes.
The shooting in Amsterdam Zuidoost happened on Meijehof at around the same time as the shooting in Diemen. Bullet casings were found at the scene.
The police are investigating whether the two incidents are related.
