
Cheapest terraces in Zwolle & Enschede; most expensive in Amsterdam
Those looking to enjoy the summer weather with a few drinks on a terrace will get away cheapest in Zwolle. Like last year and the year before that, Zwolle is the cheapest terrace city in the Netherlands, according to the annual study by hospitality consultancy Van Spronsen & Partners. Amsterdam is the most expensive, for the fourth year in a row, NOS reports.
A round of drinks - two coffees, two soft drinks, two beers and two glasses of rosé - will cost you 21.88 euros in Zwolle, 2.5 percent more than last year. In Amsterdam, the same order will cost 27.05 euros, 7.8 percent more than last year.
After Zwolle, Enschede, Breda and Almere have the cheapest terraces. After Amsterdam, terraces in The Hague, Haarlem and Den Bosch are most expensive. A surprise addition to the top 5 most expensive terrace cities is Zoetermeer. The city jumped from ninth place last year to fifth place this year. After Amsterdam, Zoetermeer also saw the biggest price increase with plus 5.3 percent.
Nationwide, prices increased by an average of 3.1 percent. "The fastest increase in years", researcher Niek Timmermans said to NOS. "But that is mainly due to the VAT increase from 6 to 9 percent." If the increase in the low VAT rate is not taken into account, prices increased 1.9 percent on average.
