Arrest made in 2004 Esbeek murder
The police arrested a 57-year-old man on Tuesday for murdering Robert Sengers 14 years ago. Sengers was shot and killed in the Noord-Brabant village of Esbeek on September 8th, 2004. The police reopened this cold case last year..
The suspect was already in prison for another crime, though the police did not say what crime. The 57-year-old man is now also suspected of murder and "will be questioned", the police said.
Sengers was sitting n his car on a parking lot when he was shot multiple times at close range. He had a criminal record for drug trafficking and lived in Neerpelt, Belgium, according to NU.nl. Sengers was friends with Marco Eijk, who was also killed in 2004. The police take into account that the two murders are connected.
