The police arrested a 40-year-old woman from Haarlem on Monday morning on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Halil Erol in 2010. Last week the police arrested a 42-year-old man from Meppel in this case. Both suspects were previously in custody for involvement in Erol's murder, but released due to a lack of evidence.

Nearly 18 years ago, Dutch kickboxer Coen de Nijs was shot and killed in the center of Alkmaar. This week police finally came one step closer to solving the crime.

A 46-year-old Estonian man was arrested on Tuesday, suspected of playing a role in the street killing. The man admitted to being involved in the incident, police said in a statement on Thursday.

The murder happened on June 22, 2001, when De Nijs was shot from behind while he was near the corner of Zevenhuizen and Gasthuisstraat in the Noord-Holland city. De Nijs died at the scene.

A 57-year-old man was arrested in Limburg on Tuesday morning for brutally raping an 18-year-old woman in 2002. He was arrested after a DNA match, the police said in a statement. 

The man and the woman were involved in a car crash in Horst on September 17th, 2002. The woman's car was damaged to such an extent that she could not drive it any further. The man offered to give her a lift home. Instead he took her to a forested area, where he raped her.

The police arrested a 57-year-old man on Tuesday for murdering Robert Sengers 14 years ago. Sengers was shot and killed in the Noord-Brabant village of Esbeek on September 8th, 2004. The police reopened this cold case last year..

The suspect was already in prison for another crime, though the police did not say what crime. The 57-year-old man is now also suspected of murder and "will be questioned", the police said.

The police received 10 tips about the murder of 32-year-old Wilma Bres in 1989. The medical student was stabbed to death 150 meters from her home in Delft, ANP reports.

The case was discussed on Opsporing Verzocht and various other television programs on Tuesday evening. The police are currently investigating the tips, a police spokesperson said to the news wire.

The police received new, concrete information regarding a possible perpetrator behind the murder of 32-year-old Wilma Bres in Delft in 1989. This cold case has therefore been reopened, with a 10 thousand euro reward on offer for information that leads to the arrest of the perpetrator or perpetrators, the police said on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday evening.

Exactly what information was received, was not revealed. 

Wilma Bres was found stabbed to death near her home on Muyskenlaan in Delft at around 3:00 a.m. on July 16th, 1989. Her bicycle was found nearby.

Exactly 25 years ago today, 18-year-old student Tanja Groen disappeared without a trace in Maastricht. Even after all this time, her mother Corrie Groen hopes that someone will come forward with information about what happened to her youngest daughter. "You never know if someone will open their mouth", she said to RTL Nieuws.

Around midnight on August 31st, 1993, first year student Tanja left a party at her student association in Maastricht to cycle to her room in nearby Gronsveld. She never arrived there. No sign of her, not even her bicycle, was ever found.

Relatives of unsolved murders in the Netherlands started a petition calling on the government to hire more detectives so that the police can pay more attention to these cold cases. The petition asks the government for a "stronger and more convincing approach" to cold cases and "more well-equipped police teams", NOS reports.

The Netherlands counts around a thousand murder cases that haven't been solved. There are also around 800 other serious violent crimes in which no arrests were made.

Jos B., the man suspected of killing 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen in 1998, had a survival kit with which he could survive in the wild with him when he was caught in Spain on Sunday. Twenty years after the murder of 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen in Brunssummerheide, the Dutch authorities managed to identify a suspect. The suspect is 55-year-old Jos B. from Simpelveld. The police do not know where he is at this time, and placed him on the national wanted list on Wednesday.

The Dutch police teamed up with technology company The New Web (TNW) to showcase how the police are using technological developments to breathe new life into cold cases, track down suspects faster, and keep the Netherlands safer in general. 

TNW approached the police early this year. "At first sight it seemed to be a strange fit", TNW founder Patrick de Laive said about the collaboration on LinkedIn. "After a few conversations and brainstorms it became clear that the police would actually be a great partner as a great part of police work is transferring to a digital landscape."

On Monday the police are searching the De Brink lake in Liessel for two men who disappeared in 1974. The search is launched based on information received late last year, the police said in a statement on Monday.

Piet Holskens (21) and Hans Martens (20) from Assen disappeared in March 1974 after a night out in Deurne. They visited Zanzibar in Deurne and were last seen leaving in a red Fiat 850 Coupe. In the years that followed, the police launched various searches, all to no avail. The police always took into account that the friends may have been murdered.

Men in the Limburg region massively responded to the police's call to give a DNA sample for a kinship investigation in the 1998 murder of 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen from Heibloem. On Saturday alone, 1,225 men gave samples. The police even opened an extra collection point in Landgraaf to process the massive response, the Telegraaf reports.
