Arrest made in 2014 mistaken identity murder
The police arrested a 51-year-old from Schiedam for involvement in the murder of mental health director Rob Zweekhorst in Berkel en Rodenrijs on January 1st, 2014. The arrest is the result of an investigation "that never stopped", the police said, according to NU.nl.
The 44-year-old mental health director was gunned down while walking his dogs on New Year's Day 2014. The police believe he was the victim of mistaken identity. The Public Prosecutor believes that Dennis van den Berg - name written in full at his own request - was the actual target of the attack. Van den Berg was in trouble with drug criminals after a batch of 300 kilograms of cocaine was intercepted by the police.
Zweekhorst's murder has long puzzled the authorities. They found nothing in his private life or work that could be the motive for his murder. There was nothing to indicate that the man had "conflicts or dubious contacts", according to the newspaper. The Prosecutor offered a 15 thousand euro reward for the tip that leads to this murder being solved. That reward is still available, the police stressed.
