Grenade explodes in Diemen; 5th explosive in a month
Residents of apartment building Buekehnorst in Diemen were woken by an explosion in a first floor apartment around 3:30 a.m. on Friday. No one was injured. The explosive was a hand grenade, witnesses told AT5.
The explosion shattered the windows of the apartment in which the grenade exploded, as well as adjacent apartments. The police are investigating what happened.
This is the fifth time an explosive was found in the Amsterdam area this month. An explosive was found on Voetboogstraat on August 16th. A day earlier a grenade exploded in front of the Marovaan restaurant on Johan Huizingalaan. And the day before that explosives were found on Jan Evertsenstraat and again Johan Huizingalaan.
This is also not the first time that the Beukenhorst apartment building is hit by an explosion. There was a gas explosion in the building three years ago.
