Dutch boy's murder suspect extradited to NL within days

Jos B., the 55-year-old man suspected of involvement in the murder of 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen in 1998, will be extradited to the Netherlands, a Spanish court ruled on Monday afternoon. This should happen within the coming days, ANP reports.

B. was arrested in in a remote area some 50 kilometers away from Barcelona on Sunday. On Monday he was questioned by a Spanish investigating judge about his extradition to the Netherlands. He agreed to an accelerated procedure for his extradition. He also revealed to the judge that he's been in Spain since March. What else he said to the Spanish authorities, is unclear. "We never give information about that", a spokesperson for the Catalan court said to the news wire.

The man from Simpelveld was identified as a suspect in Nicky Verstappen's murder based on a DNA kinship investigation. He did not give a DNA sample for the investigation, but members of his family did. B.'s clothes were examined for DNA, which matched traces found on Nicky's clothing in 1998. The police identified him in June. After unsuccessfully searching for him for weeks, B.'s name and photo was released to the public last week.
