One seriously hurt in shooting in Amsterdam restaurant
One person was seriously hurt in a shooting in a restaurant on Beethovenstraat in Amsterdam on Monday afternoon. The police are looking for one suspect, who fled the scene. The shooting happened around 2:50 p.m.
The suspect is a short man, around 1.6 meters tall, between the ages of 35 and 40 years old, with a muscled posture. He was wearing red and black striped shorts and a blue shirt, and carried a black bag with him.
The shooting happened in Ferilli's Caffe, an Italian restaurant, Het Parool reports. Witnesses told the newspaper that the victim had a baby with him. The perpetrator walked up to him and shot him in the head at close range. The victim was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
"The victim, a man with long black hair, sat at a table near the coffee machine. He often came into that business. A baby was there when it happened. The customers say that a short man in shorts came walking up, carrying a kind of bag. From that he took a huge weapon, which he aimed. Then he shot", a witness who offered shelter to the customers of the restaurant after the shooting said to the newspaper. Another witness said that as the perpetrator ran off, he threw his weapon into a garden.
The police found a weapon near a car on Jan van Eijckstraat, around the corner of the restaurant and on the perpetrator's flight route, according to Het Parool. The escape route was closed down for forensic investigation.
This is the second shooting in an Amsterdam catering business in a relatively short time. Two and a half weeks ago three people were injured when an unknown person opened fire in a coffee shop on Dusartstraat.
