Safety deposit box robbers locked in Rabobank building for two days

The perpetrators who robbed safety deposit boxes in the Rabobank in Ouenbosch early in March, let them self be locked into the bank for two days to do so, the Public Prosecutor confirmed to NU.nl.

Two suspects were arrested on Monday morning. Both worked for security company EBN from Breda, which provided security for the bank. The police searched the suspects' homes in Roosendaal and Etten-Leur, using financial and digital investigators, as well as a sniffer dog. A tanning salon in Zundert, which is registered to the name of the Etten-Leur man's partner, was also searched.

The police are investigating exactly what role the 43-year-old man from Etten-Leur and the 45-year-old man from Roosendaal played in this robbery. Investigators suspect that they helped smuggle the robbers into the bank on Friday evening, March 2nd. The robbers spent two days searching and emptying out safety deposit boxes, before leaving the bank on Sunday March 4th, according to the newspaper.

Investigators suspected that the robbers may have had help from the inside for some time. Earlier this month, the police seized the EBN servers. The company itself is not a suspect and says it is shocked by the developments.

Rabobank canceled its contract with the security company, effective May 1st.
