Woman, 19, arrested for dead baby found in Schiedam

The police arrested a 19-year-old woman from Schiedam on Wednesday night in connection with a deceased baby found in the city on Saturday. The baby's body was found in a plastic bag on the balcony of a second floor apartment on Stationstraat.

An extensive investigation was launched after the baby was discovered by the residents of the apartment. The police did a trace evidence investigation, spoke to local residents, looked at surveillance camera footage, and searched through waste containers in the area. An autopsy was also done on the child's body, in which a DNA sample was taken.

"Extensive investigation revealed that the woman is most likely the mother of the baby", the police said in a statement on Thursday. She is one of the residents of the flat where the child's body was found.

The police are now investigating the circumstances under which the baby was born and whether anyone else was involved.
