
Trucker drunk in accident that killed German cop
The truck driver who crashed into a German police car just across the Dutch border on Thursday morning, was under the influence of alcohol. A 23-year-old police officer was killed in the crash and two of her colleagues were seriously injured. One officer is still in critical condition, RTL Nieuws reports.
The police car was parked along side the A61 highway with flashing lights on, waiting for the truck. The truck crashed into the police car at full speed, dragging it some 200 meters. The trucker hat 2 per mille alcohol in his blood, according to the broadcaster.
According to Hart van Nederland, a 40-year-old Dutch man witnessed the accident. He called the police about the truck veering across the road and was still driving behind the vehicle when the accident happened.
German newspaper Rheinische Post reports that the German police were informed about the truck by colleagues from Maastricht.
The truck driver sustained no serious injuries and was arrested. The truck is believed to be from Ukraine.
