A tornado caused a great deal of damage in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on Wednesday. Around the city of Viersen, just across the border of Venlo, multiple homes lost roofs and numerous trees were blown over, NOS reports.

One person was seriously hurt in Viersen and a firefighter was hit by lighting. As far as is known, no one was killed. The tornado lasted almost 15 minutes.

The truck driver who on Thursday morning, was under the influence of alcohol. A 23-year-old police officer was killed in the crash and two of her colleagues were seriously injured. One officer is still in critical condition, RTL Nieuws reports.

A 23-year-old German police officer was killed and two other officers were seriously injured in an accident with a truck on the A61 highway near Viersen, just across the border from the Netherlands. The German police were parked along the highway, waiting for the truck after the Dutch police warned them about the truck's driving behavior, NOS reports.
