Four arrested for violence after Venlo shooting
On Tuesday the police arrested four men for being involved in disturbances in the Venlo district of Blerick following a fatal shooting on November 1st. The four men are suspected of public violence and assault. They form part of a group of people who harassed and threatened journalists a day after the shooting, NU.nl reports.
22-year-old Omer Koksal from Blerick was killed in the shooting on November 1st, the third serious shooting in the neighborhood in a matter of months. After Koksal's death, angry residents took to the street, pelting the police with stones and pieces of wood. The riot police had to disperse the crowd. The next day, several journalists and cameramen were harassed and threatened. Venlo mayor Antoin Scholten eventually implemented extra security measures to restore calm in the district.
The police believe that Koksal's murder was drug related. A 22-year-old man was arrested in Rotterdam on November 14th, on suspicion of involvement in Koksal's murder. The police are still looking for a second suspect. His identity is known to the investigators.
