Amsterdam man suspected of murdering three women

The Amsterdam police may have stumbled across a serial killer in a missing person investigation. 44-year-old Sjonny W. from Amsterdam is suspected of gruesomely murdering two women, and involvement in the disappearance of a third, the Telegraaf reported on Thursday.

W. was arrested in June in connection with the disappearance of 30-year-old Sabrina Oosterbeek. The woman disappeared in Amsterdam in March. The police believe she was murdered, though her body hasn't been found yet.

In September the police also arrested W. for the murder of 30-year-old Romanian woman Mirela Mos in 2004. She was found dead in Amsterdam Zuidoost on November 15th, 2004. Her body had been cut into several pieces and left in garbage bags under a tree on Wamelstraat.

The police now also believe that W. is responsible for the murder of 26-year-old Monique Roossien in 2003, the judiciary confirmed according to the Telegraaf.

Roossien's body was found by a photographer on Uitdammerdijk in Amsterdam-Noord on April 27th, 2003, AT5 reports. She was nude and lying in the fetal position on the shore of the IJmeer. The young woman was a prostitute originally from Groningen. No suspect was ever caught and the investigation into her murder eventually turned into a cold case.

On Wednesday an Amsterdam detective visited Monique's sister Linda Roossien to inform her about the arrest. "The police always told me that it was an incredibly difficult investigation. I quickly accepted the fact that the chance of an arrest would be zero", she said, according to AT5.

The Amsterdam police also made contact with the cold case team in Rotterdam and are looking for a connection with W. in other unsolved murders.
