Son arrested in connection with Amsterdam man’s slaying
The police arrested a 21-year-old man from Amsterdam for the murder of Johnny Ponson, a 65-year-old man found killed in his home in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. Sources told Parool that the suspect is the victim’s son.
The police found Ponson dead in his Gravestein apartment on March 30. A friend had called the police when they couldn’t reach the man. He had clearly been killed in a crime.
Ponson was born and raised in Aruba and spent some time living in Colombia but had been living in Gravestein for years, neighbors told Parool. They called him loved in the neighborhood and known for his helpfulness. He has three children from two relationships in the Antilles and in Colombia.
The police arrested the 21-year-old Amsterdam man in Beverwijk on Tuesday. He is suspected of involvement in Ponson’s death. The police did not confirm that the suspect was the victim’s son.
