Monster truck stunt driver headed to trial in fatal accident

Monster truck driver Mario D. is appearing in the court in Almelo on Monday after he drove his monster truck into the audience during a stunt in Haaksbergen in 2014. Event organizer Sterevenementen is also appearing in court, AD reports. Both D. and the organizer are facing charges of manslaughter and causing grievous bodily harm. Three people were killed and 28 others were injured when the monster truck stunt went wrong and the truck crashed into the audience on September 28th, 2014. The court will start with the substantive handling of the case on Monday and victims will have a chance to give statements. On Tuesday the Public Prosecutor will demand a statement and the lawyers will make their arguments. In October last year the administrative court ruled that the Haaksbergen municipality should never have issued a permit for the monster truck show.
