Mayor relents: Village of 2,400 will not take 600 asylum seekers
The small village of Otterlo will not have to provide shelter to 600 refugees, the municipality of Ede relented after mass protests by residents. Otterlo will still have to take in some refugees, how many is not clear yet, but it will be less than 600.
Ede Mayor Cees van der Knaap said this at a crowded information meeting, NOS reports. About a thousand residents attended the meeting.
The majority of residents feel that 600 refugees are too many to house on a recreational area on the outskirts of the village, especially given that the village's population consists of only 2,400 people.
