Banks can cancel mortgages when illegal fireworks found

The police are going to tip off banks and other mortgage lenders if they find dangerous illegal fireworks in a home that could wreak extreme damage to the property. This is according to Ad Nieuwdorp, fireworks expert at the National police. Nieuwdorp says that the police will start tipping off banks this year still. Banks can then address offenders and in extreme cases, cancel the mortgage, he says. "Every time we encounter such a case we will discuss other possibilities in addition to the criminal prosecution. If what we see is insane, we will hand it over to the bank." According to Nieuwdorp, illegal fireworks in the Netherlands are becoming heavier and can cause increasingly extreme damage.
