Eindhoven: Stadhuisplein and the Markt jammed with PSV fans

Both the Stadhuisplein and the Markt in Eindhoven were already jammed full of supporters early Tuesday afternoon as celebrations in honor of PSV got underway. The club’s professional men’s team took the Dutch national championship for the 27th time on Sunday.

People were already queuing up to see the celebration at the squares and their home ground, Philips Stadion, during the morning hours, with the presentation at the stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m. From 3 p.m., the team had planned to tour the city in an open-air vehicle, before arriving at Stadhuisplein for more festivities after 5 p.m.

The team will be carrying with them the Eredivisie championship trophy and showing it off to their fans. The rest of the city is also busy, and the streets were filled with people, and decorations, using the team’s red and white colors.

The ceremony can also be followed on large screens at other locations in the city. The municipality asked fans to go to the 18 Septemberplein, the Catharinaplein, the Stationsplein, and the Oude Stadsgracht.

Police did confiscate fireworks at Stadhuisplein, a spokesperson confirmed to ANP following earlier reporting by Omroep Brabant. Setting off fireworks is prohibited. Fans were also not allowed to bring bags into the fenced-off areas on the square and the Markt.

Alcohol, drugs, glass, cans, and weapons are also prohibited, the municipality said.
