Venray: reeking sewer causes alarm
Two people had to be treated by emergency staff and taken to hospital in an ambulance after a penetrating stench from the sewers in Venray made them unwell Monday evening.
According to the fire department, the sewage system at the Klaproos in the municipality of Limburg was dumped full of an petrol- or acetone-like substance.
Complaints about the stench came in from 9:25 p.m. The fire department responded to a report of a strange putrid smell in the toilets of several homes in one part of the Landweert neighborhood.
The fire department did readings, but could not confirm anything. The smell was very strong, but the fire department is saying that it was only a low concentration.
The fire department flushed the sewage system through in order to minimize the smell as much as possible. Residents were advised to ventilate their homes properly.
