Ajax slapped for banner mocking cancer victim

The plaintiff professional football for the KNVB will investigate the matter of a banner, displayed by Ajax fans during the cup match against Feyenoord. The banner read: 'Our smoke is more red than Red Marck,' referring to a Feyenoord fan by that name, who died from cancer last year. During the match, which Ajax won with 3-1, the banner was displayed in box 410. Image removed. Ajax banner_rooie marck

Twitter The KNVB condemns the text and expects it will be clear within a few days whether Ajax will be sanctioned, reported the NOS. The UEFA sanctioned Ajax Thursday for a similar incident with an insulting banner during the game against Celtic. One box has to remain empty during the game against Red Bull Salzburg in the European League. Ajax is not the only club suffering from insubordinate fans. Earlier in the season FC Twente was fined 2,500 euros by the KNVB for a banner that read 'Hashish, coke, and pills.'
